Censorship In The Entertainment Industry.

Okay, I chose to do my topic on Censorship In The Entertainment Industry. Should hardcore musical acts such as Lil Kim, & Lil Wayne censor their explicit lyrics? Should shows such as A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila, Sex & The City, and The Real World calm down on their in your face sexual content? Maybe? Maybe not.

When Don Imus stated, "Nappy headed ho's", was it right for America to crack down on Hip Hop and their explicit lyrics?

There is two sides to this story. Both which can be explained very well. What do you think?

I feel that censorship is not needed, when the person, show, album ,artist or whatever have given proper warning.. Not just because it would be impossible to censor everything al the time but it not needed.
Do i choose to use words or language that degrade or victimize a person for any reason:sex, color, race, religion, no. Can you police the world, no.

It seems to me that a responsible person in any area of entertainment can do anything as long as they set that expectation for the potential audience, then it is the responsibility of the viewer/listener to understand that the content may contain material of an offensive nature

Art(to include music) is an expression of ones self and is expected to raise personal opinions of its audience, its up to the artist how he wants his medium to be viewed with the expectaion of like and dislike. Afterall isnt that what art is about?

My strong opinion comes from my background in the arts. I was raised in art and music. Everyone i grew up with is in someway connected to the art or music industry. The same way that music artist sing of contraversial topics and the use of words that some might hear and be offended, military war photgraphers that i personally worked with in the military took photos of dead and dying victims and soldiers, Bodies dismembered or 80% of the body missing to document war itself, as an outside perspective these photos are often bought or independent photographers take the risk to get these contraversial shots that some see as art of war and a record of histroy some see it as disgust and something that should remain unseen. How about a simple art class starring at a nude male or female just so they can paint contrast of light and shape, Offensive??? Maybe. What about Michelangelo, Piccasso and Dali all are famous for several nude paintings. They demograph that these artist in the music industry are playing to except and appreciate their talent. The people that b*tch about it need to change the station!!!!!!!

I have always thought that censorship of ANY type of art, including music, is a form of political brainwashing.

Musicians use music to express emotion. It is one of the most personal and pure things a person can do; write music that is. Sometimes a musician needs to use “swear” words to express the exact emotion or tell the story that the song is supposed to tell. If you label albums with “explicit” tags, not only does that cause certain retailers to pull the albums from their shelves (limiting the amount of exposure to the people), but it also causes some parents to shelter their children from the music. Some adults refuse to buy music that has “explicit” tagged on the cover. This is ridiculous. Not only is the government shutting down “free-thinkers” (the musicians), but they are also brain-washing the masses by labeling these CD’s. They are indirectly telling people what to listen to, and therefore to a certain degree, how to think. Again, there are some musicians that only write about sex and use these “swear” words for shock value. But where would we be as a society without Orson Wells’ “War of the Worlds”? Or Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”, for that matter. I’m half joking obviously but my point is the same: our society fears what is new and what it doesn’t understand. But without people who dared to be “different”, where would we be? We wouldn’t have much of the technology that we do today. Fashion, art, literature, and even food would all be different: bland, boring, and ugly.
Of course I wouldn’t let my 5 year old daughter listen to a 2 Live Crew CD, but I don’t think they should have an “explicit” warning on the CD either. If you want to raise and protect your kids, then do it, and stop expecting everyone else to pick up your slack. It all starts with the parents. But at the same time, people shouldn’t let others make their decisions for them. If everyone kept an open mind, I think we’d all get along much better.

I agree with you all because I am a musician myself, and I know that I wouldn't want anyone censoring my stuff, because it's me exressing who I am, getting my point across, showing the world who I am as a person.

I dont think censorship is neccessary Besides trampling all over freedom of speech I believe that it will take away from the emotion or feeling in the message that the artist is trying to convey to the audience.... If the issue is childred veiwing or listening to the content of the material then honestly thats a parents job 2 moniter what their kids r doen not the entertainment industries Alot of what I watch is graphic almost all of what I listen to is explicit But I dont allow my kids to watch or hear it It is my job as a parent to be resonsible and pay attenion
